Opus 2 #37 Grade C, Smooth Bulldog

$245, Sold September 2007, thanks!

Specs:
Grade C
Height: 1.9"
Diameter:1.9"
Overall Length: 5.9 "
Chamber Diameter: 3/4"
Chamber Depth: 1.63"

From Italian Plateaux briar with a hand cut German Ebonite Stem, and integral tenon. The nicest bulldog I've made yet. I'm pleased with the lines--the touch of Danish influence I've been striving for. An innovative angle makes a nice size chamber while facilitating the shape. Very nice birdseye on the top and bottom, also on the top of one side of the stem. Straight and flame flowing up the sides, front and back. Three un-distracting flaws keep this a grade C, but it's a really beautiful pipe.

Opus 2 #57, Smooth Bulldog

$ 325 Sold, thanks!

Specs:
Grade: A
Height: 1.77"
Diameter: 2.06" at the top
Overall Length: 6.0 "
Chamber Diameter: .75"
Chamber Depth: 1.39"
Weight: 60 grams (2.1 oz)

Made from Italian Plateaux with a hand cut Brindle (Cumberland) full tapered stem with an integral tenon. A large squat Bulldog with distinctly Danish influence. Beautiful straight and flame grain on the sides, front, and back of the bowl, flowing from very nice birdseye top and bottom. The shank also has some beautiful grain transitionsl. The stain I ended up with for this really helps the beautiful grain to pop, and I think it looks fantastic with the Brindle. I love the look and feel of this piece over all. It may be my nicest Bulldog to date. Very clean, with only a very few tiny specs that are not the least bit distracting, and very difficult to see without magnification.

$285 Placed June 2008, Thanks!

Specs:
Grade B
Height: 2.15 "
Diameter: 1.42"
Overall Length: 7"
Chamber Diameter: .75"
Chamber Depth: 1.91"
Weight: 41 grams (1.4 oz)

I was glad to have such a nice pipe for my 50th! Made from Italian Plateaux with a hand cut German Ebonite Stem and integral tenon.

This is a beautiful pipe with excellent grain (flame and straight all the way around the bowl). A couple of very small sand specs can be seen in the pics on the bottom and side of the shank. These keep this a grade B instead of an A, but they are not the least bit distracting to my eye.

This is the largest, and most beautiful of the A.S.P. 2008 POY's I've finished to date, and the only smooth, and very light for it's size. Unfortunately the pictures simply do not do it justice--I've got to get a better camera!

Freehand #63, Smooth Grade C Dublin

$ 245 Sold, Thanks!

Specs :
Grade: C
Height: 2.18" (55 mm)
Diameter: 1.61 " (41 mm) side to side at the top and 1.96 (50 mm) front to back.
Overall Length: 6.7" (170 mm)
Chamber Diameter: .80" (20 mm)
Chamber Depth: 1.66" (42 mm)
Weight: 2.0 oz (58 grams)

Made from Italian Plateaux with a half saddle hand cut German Ebonite stem with an integral tenon. A medium sized Dublin with beautiful straight grain nearly completely around the bowl and along the side of the shank with just a hint of fall out. The grain is flowing from birdseye top and bottom. Two small flaws on the top, and a few small sand pits keep this a Grade C, and a very good value for this much grain. Very well balanced with a large capacity for it's moderate size.

Freehand #61, Smooth Volcano

$ 325 Sold, thanks!

Specs :
Grade: B
Height: 2.28" (58 mm)
Diameter: 2.06" (47 mm) side to side at the bottom
Overall Length: 7.5" (191 mm)
Chamber Diameter: .75" (19 mm)
Chamber Depth: 1.61 " (41 mm)
Weight: 3.65 oz (104 grams)

Made from Italian Plateaux with a unique half saddle hand cut German Ebonite stem with an integral tenon. A large Volcano with beautiful straight grain on the sides, and straight grain with some fall out on the front and back of the bowl. The grain is flowing from very nice birdseye top and bottom. The shank has some especially beautiful straight to birdseye grain transitions between the sides and top. Very clean wood with a little of the natural plateaux left on the bottom. I rated this a grade B and not an A because of the way the plateaux on the bottom took the stain, but I don't find this detracts at all from the over all beauty from this very fine piece.
